Crypto Wallet Recovery for Lawyers & Notaries
Technical wallet access recovery for lawyers, notaries and estate practitioners, with authority checks, written scope and case-appropriate documentation.
First point of contact: Fabian de Graaf, case management and partnerships
Estate, inheritance and dispute matters can involve a crypto wallet that nobody can open. We provide the technical wallet-access work; the lawyer or notary remains responsible for legal advice, representation and the wider matter.
How the engagement works
From a confidential first contact to an authorized, client-controlled handover.
- 1
Confidential first contact
Share only your role, organization and a high-level description. Do not send wallet secrets, identity documents or files through the ordinary form.
- 2
Authority and written scope
Nothing moves before this is in writing: scope, reporting, security and fee. What establishes authority depends on the role and the jurisdiction.
- 3
Secure technical work
Required material moves through the agreed secure route. We work on copies where possible, in a controlled environment, and report to the agreed recipients.
- 4
Handover and closure
Access and any agreed report are returned to the authorized recipient. The client remains in control of the assets; return, retention or deletion of material follows the agreement.
What the engagement covers
See which cases we can assess and what we agree with you before work begins.
Technical matters we can assess
- Forgotten passwords on encrypted wallet files such as wallet.dat, keystore/UTC and .wallet.aes, tested against copies where possible.
- Partial, invalid or incorrectly ordered recovery phrases, where the remaining information creates a bounded search.
- Legacy wallets and discontinued software, including MultiBit, Jaxx, Mist and other older formats.
- Hardware wallets, old devices and damaged media that may contain wallet material.
- Wallets in estates, after the authority of the executor, administrator, heir or other representative has been established.
- Technical feasibility, including a clear answer when the available material is not enough.
Define the engagement before material moves
At intake we establish who is instructing us, who has legal authority over the wallet or estate, who may provide material, who may receive updates, and who controls the final handover. Those roles, the technical scope, the fee, confidentiality arrangements and any reporting requirements are recorded in writing before recovery work begins.
The instructing professional can remain involved in communications where the client authorizes it. We do not displace the professional-client relationship and do not provide probate, tax, valuation or legal advice.
Authority and safe intake
We use risk-based identity, ownership, authority and compliance checks. What is needed depends on the facts and jurisdiction. The first assessment should contain only a general description of the wallet, what happened, what material still exists and the role of the person contacting us. Do not send seed phrases, private keys, passwords, wallet files or identity documents through the ordinary form.
Evidence handling and reporting
Original media should be preserved. Where possible, analysis is performed on a working copy. If litigation, an estate file or another formal process creates evidence-handling requirements, these must be identified before work starts. The agreed scope can include integrity hashes, an activity record and a technical report suitable for the stated purpose.
We do not describe ordinary recovery work as automatically “court-ready.” A technical report records the work covered by its scope; it is not a legal opinion or expert-witness report unless that separate role and its requirements are expressly agreed.
Security, handover and closure
Sensitive transfer and access arrangements are agreed per case and follow our security and data-handling policy. We do not take custody or move client or estate assets on a client's behalf. The agreement also states the intended recipients of any report, the handover process, and how recovery material is returned, deleted or retained under the privacy policy and applicable obligations.
Fees and boundaries
The initial assessment is free. The exact fee and scope are stated in the written proposal; see pricing for the standard success-fee principle. We do not guarantee recovery, reverse blockchain transactions, pursue stolen or scammed funds, or bypass the official process for an exchange or custodian.
