Ethereum Wallet Recovery Service
Ethereum wallet recovery: keystores, phrases, presale wallets and passwords - free assessment, success-based and non-custodial.
Quick answers
What Ethereum material can be recovered?
A keystore file with password memory, a recovery phrase (even partial), or a device. The file alone is not a way back.
Why does a restored wallet show zero ETH?
Almost always a missing passphrase, derivation path or account issue - not missing funds.
Can a presale wallet be recovered?
Yes, in many cases - the presale format is known, and the file plus any password clues makes a search realistic.
Ethereum wallets usually hold a keystore (UTC/JSON) file, a recovery phrase, or a hardware device key. Which one you have decides exactly what recovery means.
Which wallets this covers
MetaMask vaults and phrases, keystore / UTC / JSON files from Geth and MEW, MyEtherWallet, the 2014 presale wallet, Mist, Ether.li, and Ledger or Trezor accounts.
What is recoverable
A keystore file, a recovery phrase (even partial), or a device can provide a recovery route. Presale wallets have a specific encrypted format we know well.
What is not recoverable
A completely lost phrase with no file, device or backup cannot be rebuilt. An existing keystore file remains the target for password recovery and requires case-specific assessment.
How it works
Free assessment, written agreement, controlled offline testing on copies. You regain access and move your ETH yourself.
For the specific steps, see our Ethereum keystore guide, MetaMask recovery, or the presale wallet article.
The route depends on what you still have
- Keystore or UTC file: recovery is a password search against the encrypted private key inside the file, and a remembered length, pattern or era narrows the candidate list.
- A recovery phrase: restore it in any compatible wallet. A zero balance afterwards is a diagnostic problem before it is a loss - check whether a passphrase was set, whether the wallet used the standard derivation path, and whether funds sit on a later account index than the one first shown.
- MetaMask vault or phrase: the vault password protects the encrypted vault; the phrase is the universal route out of MetaMask, including after an app reinstall.
- A 2014 presale wallet uses a specific encrypted format: the file itself is what a password search runs against, and each case needs its own assessment.
- A hardware wallet (Ledger, Trezor) with an ETH account: the device itself or its recovery phrase is the route; an ETH account never lives only on the device.
What each scenario actually means
- Keystore file with a forgotten password: recovery tests candidates against the scrypt or PBKDF2 encryption inside the file. No tool can shortcut that derivation.
- Recovery phrase with words missing, wrong or reordered: the checksum and the 2,048-word BIP-39 list bound the search, but there is no universal four-word cutoff - the raw space multiplies by 2,048 with every blank, and which positions are known, whether an old receiving address is available to confirm a candidate and what hardware the search can use decide feasibility.
- Completely lost phrase with no file, device or backup: not recoverable - by us or anyone.
- Presale wallet with the file: the encrypted file is what gets tested; without the file or a backup, there is nothing to run a search against.
Why the password is the bottleneck
Ethereum keystores are encrypted with scrypt or PBKDF2, and there is no reset button and no support ticket that recovers a forgotten wallet password. Recovery means testing candidates against the file's encryption on a copy - which is exactly what we do under a written agreement, in a controlled offline environment. You regain access and move your ETH yourself; we never take custody.
