Case Studies
Real, anonymised wallet recovery case studies: what happened, what material remained and how access was restored.
All case studies
- A Bitcoin wallet locked for years: MultiBit Classic password recoveryA 2013 MultiBit Classic wallet, a discontinued program and an overlooked notebook — access restored to Bitcoin worth well into six figures.
- MyEtherWallet Recovery: Lost Seed & Forgotten PasswordA fragmented memory of a 2017 seed phrase, rebuilt offline and verified against known addresses until the right phrase matched.
- Deleted Bitcoin Core wallet.dat recoveredA deleted wallet.dat recovered from a drive that had been left untouched — proof that preservation beats every recovery tool.
- Trezor seed phrase restored with 22 of 24 wordsTwo faded words on a long-kept backup card turned a locked wallet into a bounded reconstruction problem — recovered in about four hours.
What these cases show
Every case is decided by material, not by tools: a wallet file that still exists, a partial phrase, or an honest memory of a password. The recovery feasibility guide explains when that material is enough, and the wallet formats reference covers the files behind the cases.
Each case study also states what would have made it impossible. That matters more than the successes: it is how you judge whether your own situation is worth pursuing before anyone charges you for it.
Each case study is published only with consent, anonymised, and without seed phrases, keys, passwords or identifying wallet data. Its purpose is to show what is technically realistic - not to expose how a specific wallet was unlocked.
