Green Wallet Recovery Service
Blockstream Green wallet recovery: phrase, passphrase, 2FA and backups - free assessment, success-based.
Quick answers
What backup does Blockstream Green use?
The backup depends on how the wallet was created. Current wallets use a 12- or 24-word phrase; older password-protected GreenAddress wallets can use a 27-word phrase. Two-factor accounts also require the relevant recovery details.
Does 2FA change recovery?
Legacy 2FA accounts normally require an additional factor to spend. Blockstream provides a reset procedure with a waiting period; some funds can be spent without 2FA once their timelock expires. The route depends on the account and the particular funds. New 2FA accounts are no longer offered.
What is the timeout on Green wallets?
Two-factor accounts add a timed recovery delay by design - it is a security feature, not a bug or a lost wallet.
Blockstream Green is a multi-chain wallet (Bitcoin, Lightning and Liquid) designed around security - which also means more than one thing can lock a wallet.
What you are actually dealing with
- Recovery phrase: the word count depends on which Green product created the wallet, not a setting you can change later - the current Blockstream App uses a 12- or 24-word phrase, while legacy password-protected GreenAddress wallets used 27 words. Identify which one created your wallet before you restore anything; the wrong length simply fails.
- Passphrase (optional): Green supports a BIP39 passphrase. If one was used, the wallet only reappears with the exact passphrase - a wrong one silently gives a different, empty wallet.
- Second factor (2FA): legacy 2FA accounts normally require an additional factor to spend. Blockstream provides a reset procedure with a waiting period; some funds can be spent without 2FA once their timelock expires. The route depends on the account and the particular funds. New 2FA accounts are no longer offered.
- PIN and app data: the app PIN locks the local installation; it is not the backup. Reinstalling and restoring from the phrase replaces it.
When professional recovery is the right call
- Several words are missing, unreadable or in the wrong order.
- The passphrase is forgotten on a single-sig setup — remembered structural details can help focus a search; for legacy 2FA accounts, the applicable spending or 2FA-reset procedure must also be established.
- A 2FA backup is lost and the wallet is in multisig mode - recovery depends on the provider's 2FA recovery path and must be handled carefully.
- A restored wallet shows no balance across the standard account range.
Recovery limits
- No phrase, no passphrase and no wallet export: the keys are gone with the seed.
- A forgotten passphrase requires case-specific assessment; there is no shortcut around the encryption.
Practical notes
- Never enter a Green phrase into a website or "verification" tool.
- The PIN protects access to the current installation; it is not a replacement for the recovery phrase. Preserve that installation until a usable recovery route is confirmed.
- Back up the 2FA the same way you back up the phrase - losing both is the worst combination.
